Coaching Philosophy

Who we are....

ExperienceGolf was founded by Elena King, LPGA, Gary Davis, PGA, and Denise McGuire, PhD. with the idea that there is a better way for students to learn and coaches to coach than what was provided by the traditional "golf instruction" model.  With the opening of CommonGround Golf Course in 2009 ExperienceGolf partnered with the Colorado Golf Association, Colorado Women's Golf Association and the Colorado Junior Golf Association to oversee and provide the coaching and player development programs at the CommonGround Learning Center.

In addition to private, semi-private and group coaching programs for players of all ages and abilities, we conduct golf programs for organizations such as Big Brothers / Big Sisters, Special Olympics, Open Fairways and the Challenge Foundation.  In 2010 we began introducing golf in local schools through their P.E. curriculums.

What we do....

ExperienceGolf coaches golfers of all abilities by sharing simple, scientifically-based processes that enable their students to tap into their own resources to achieve their best on each shot, resulting in a more enjoyable golf experience.

How we do it....
Coaching versus Teaching

What is the difference between coaching and teaching? While many people believe the terms are inter-changeable, we believe there is a distinct difference between the two.

  • Coaching takes a very different approach. It focuses more on creating an environment where the student can heighten their sense of awareness and tap into their own innate physical ability, rather than get in the way of it.
  • Teaching implies imparting knowledge upon someone, an "outside in" approach.  The term teaching conjures up images of an authoritative figure telling someone how they should do something.  In other words, "I'm the expert, and to get better you must remember what I tell you to do."

So what is the coach’s role in this type of learning process? First and foremost it’s to create the environment where this type of learning can take place. How do we do that? We help students to get rid of their checklists and formulas and become more present and aware, so that they can finally experience and own the changes that they want to make in their game.  As students begin to experience this concept of awareness something magical starts to happen, golf becomes fun again and a sense of freedom starts to emerge. Fear and doubt go out the window creating room for more enjoyment of the game.
